ESCAIDE 2019, Stockholm, Sweden

The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) organizes every year the ESCAIDE conference (European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology). This year ESCAIDE took place in Stockholm, Sweden, 27 - 29 November 2019. The full program of the conference can be found here.

Although the conference primarily focuses on the medical aspects of infectious diseases, there was also a group of presentations investigating the impact of environmental conditions on diseases with climate-sensitive attributes. In this context, we participated with a poster presentation [1], describing a modelling approach for the construction of a West Nile Virus early warning system, for the Region of Central Macedonia in northern Greece.

The final plenary session of the conference was titled "Climate change: Addressing the public health challenge in Europe” and very interestingly, the three speakers presented a comprehensive review of the research advances that have been achieved on this field and highlighted the need for a "One-Health" approach that would incorporate the increasing impact of climate change.
